As someone who has rented many bikes over the years and is an avid cyclist, I was disappointed with my experience at Pedels Bicycles. When I walked into the store, I noticed several employees sitting around appearing bored and waiting for something to do. It seemed like that time could have been better spent performing routine maintenance and safety checks on the rental fleet for that day or week. After reading other customer reviews mentioning issues such as rusted chains and poorly maintained bikes, this has gone unaddressed based on feedback. A rusted or neglected chain is not just an inconvenience—it can become a safety hazard and potentially leave riders stranded. Another concern was the lack of attention given to properly fitting the bike to the rider. Seat height is one of the most basic adjustments that can significantly affect comfort, performance, and safety. No effort was made to ensure the bike was adjusted correctly, which could easily lead to discomfort or even injury during a ride. My wife was excited to ride bikes and we ultimately had a wonderful time exploring the area. Thankfully, we did not experience any mechanical issues during our ride. However, knowing the concerns about maintenance and seeing the lack of attention to bike preparation, I was glad we didn't encounter any problems while out enjoying the area. None of these issues are difficult to address, but together they created an experience that felt inattentive and lacking in customer care. Better bike maintenance, proper rider fitting, more proactive staff engagement, and consistent pricing would go a long way toward improving both the customer experience and rider safety.

For over 22 years, we have been visiting family on HHI. It was so much fun to call ahead and order our families bikes from Pedals. Sadly, this week was my last rental and my first review of a service company. We rented for a week and the bikes were delivered lat afternoon on the day of the rental. On the day they were to be picked up, we called to ask what time they were coming and were advised that they pick up early, around 9AM. It was already after 9 and we weren't home to put the bikes out. When I tried to comment that it wasn't really a weekly rental, the gentleman from Pedals interrupted me multiple times, with "Ma'am, Ma'am, Ma'am" believing that what he had to say was more important than listening to the customer. To keep the bikes for the last day, insteading of getting into a disagreement with you, I paid for another day's rental. I hope you are happy with the extra $10 you received since sadly it will be last money you get from my family. We have recommended your company multiple times and have been loyal customers. My youngest daughter learned to ride on one of your bikes on the beach! There are many choices of bike rental companies on HHI and we will be trying a different company on our next visit. The quality of your bikes have gone down too. The kickstand wasn't working on one of the bikes I had this week. It seems the bottom piece was missing. Customer service is so easy and so important.

On 5/18/26 we walked up and rented 4 bikes. The staff were very nice and accommodating, and explained we could ride on the beach and how to return the bikes after hours. Upon getting our bikes, my wife immediately complained about her bike because it was rusty and the handle bar foam was all torn up. They tried another bike that had similar issues so they took it back. One maintenance guy said give her one of the newer bikes (we thought, why not get a newer one to begin with). I also rejected my bike because the chain and frame was rusty. The staff quickly switched it out with no hesitation. During our ride my daughter’s pedal began wobbling. She continued riding it but continued complaining. I switched bikes with her and experienced the awful ride myself. The pedal was clearly defective and improperly maintained. It caused my thighs to hurt due to the awkward jerking pedal motion. After a couple of hours, we had enough and took the bikes back. Unfortunately, they had already closed. I left a message on their non-descriptive voicemail (no mention of the business name) and never received a callback. We were disappointed.
